The site director was only a few months away from the process that led to the first Pays Royannais, but did not deny it. The opposite. “This initiative is fully in line with the guidelines of Club du Soleil villages in terms of corporate social responsibility. »
Camps in advance
On paper, the village of Rons-les-Bains in La Tremblade, a co-composer, is the first in the Pays Roigny. It will still need to convince other ‘providers’ than just the holiday village to ‘merge’. The mission given to them by Aurel Aubergeon and his brother Fabien. Their association, Terres d’éveil, is still young but already brings its expertise in bio-waste recycling to some 45 camps on the neighboring island of Oleron. Services provided through their commercial company, Natura Lien, which manufactures its own compost bins designed to absorb the mass of kitchen waste and other food waste generated by restaurants, campers, tourist lodges.
Note that in the region, “80% of campsites have already been equipped with composters in two years,” revealed Enrique Poitevin, president of the Association of Outdoor Hotels in Pais Roiana, last February.
Most citizens, permanent residents of the area or tourists, still do not realize it, but the law introduced something new on the 1st.is Last January. biowaste sorting, for individuals and professionals. To treat them, intercommunities such as the Royan Atlantique Urban Community (Cara) are required to offer a solution to residents. An order for individual composters has been made, their deployment will be spread over the coming years. Although it promotes information and awareness-raising activities, Cara is not legally bound to offer solutions to professionals to collect and process their bio-waste.
Up to 10 tons
In Ronces-les-Bains, therefore, under the direction of the Club du Soleil holiday village, we try to take responsibility. “A study was already carried out within the group to assess the level of production of this bio-waste, which we already planned to recycle, even before it became mandatory,” assures Patricia Masson.
The composting system at the Ronçois Club du Soleil site was launched at the beginning of July. “It can process up to 10 tons of bio-waste. Club du Soleil, which offers full meals, already produces 7 to 8 tons on its own,” explains Aurelie Aubergen. One of the two maturing tanks will be dedicated to the holiday village itself, the second will be open to the restaurateurs of Roncois who wish to embark on this collective adventure, partly financed by the regional system “Innovative Tourism in Nouvelle-Aquitaine”.
Lighten the litter
The activation of two supply tanks, two maturation tanks, separated by a storage tank for the ground material required for the process, marks only the beginning of the initiative, not an end in itself. Already because we will have to convince neighboring restaurateurs of the benefits of joining the process. “When we ask them about it, they often say they don’t have time to sort, but when we explain how it can work, they understand that their ‘green’ bins will smell less, that they will . less voluminous. It’s just a matter of changing the way you do things,” asserts Arnaud Leduc, Natura Lien’s website referent.
The economic argument, at least, could have hit home. In terms of waste collection and treatment, professionals are subject to a “special fee” which is paid according to the weight of the waste removed. Less bio-waste in the bin means less weight and therefore lower fees. And nature will be grateful to them. In Ronce-les-Bains, the compost that will be produced at Club du Soleil will find an immediate destination: the village’s vegetable garden and its flower gardens.
