Stories revealed where race, politics, human rights intersect

Organization of culture and development NEON presents the report unity space at the drama school of the National Theater / School of Athens – Irini PapaFrom September 9 to October 20, 2024.

NEON curated by the director Elina Kunturi, presents a report that addresses some of Europe’s and the world’s most pressing issues. The movement of people, cultures and ideas shapes Europe as a space of flux through the interaction and exchange of cultural differences. It unity space is an exhibition about the stories that unfold when race, politics, and human rights intersect.

The exhibition unity space is developed in the territory of the drama school of the National Theater of Athens. The school plays an important role in the cultural life of the city, as it acts as a center for artistic practices and is a lively space where students from different social origins, backgrounds and cultures coexist. Since 1930, when the school was founded at the same time National Theatreis a workshop dedicated to the creative exploration of the actor’s art and an artistic educational institution developing pedagogy and progressive ideas.

The exhibit’s exhibition and public program seeks to co-exist with the activities of the drama school, creating an open, living laboratory.

The Unity exhibition space will explore how preconceived notions of racism, social mobility, immigrant rights, and how a sense of belonging, of coexistence, through diversity of class, race, gender, survives in our everyday lives.

Artists, artists and collectives participate, presenting artistic practices that challenge stereotypes;

The exhibition will be framed by a public program that will bring together various stakeholders, including artists, academics, civil society organizations and policy makers.

In its context unity spaceThe: NEON carried out infrastructure construction works in the unrenovated areas of the school, in accordance with its principle to create and donate infrastructure in all the places with which it cooperates and open unexpected places of cultural significance to the public.
