Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netnyahu said he was deeply saddened that Hamas was able to launch the Oct. 7 attack, but did not directly claim responsibility in an interview with Time magazine.
Netanyahu, who has never apologized for the failure of his government and security services to prevent the largest massacre in Israeli history, was specifically asked by Time: “Are you going to do it now? Will you apologize?
“I don’t think we can do that now, in the middle of a war. Sorry; Of course, of course… I deeply regret that such a thing happened,” he answered.
It is pointed out to Netanyahu that former US President Donald Trump stated that the Prime Minister of Israel was justly criticized for the bloodshed on October 7. But Benjamin Netanyahu wonders why he should be criticized… And when the American magazine reporter replies that “because (the October 7 attack) happened during your tenure,” the Israeli prime minister comments: After Pearl Harbor or like President George W. Bush after 9/11.”
“You’re trying to figure out how this could have been avoided. But, at present, what is my responsibility? To win the war so that it does not happen again,” he added.
Netanyahu was also asked what his position would be if the October 7 attack happened with his political opponent in power. With months of protests over his strategy during the Gaza war and the return of hostages still held by Hamas, Netanyahu says it depends on whether he can lead the country during the war and whether he can lead it to victory. In such a case, I think he should remain in power, argued the Prime Minister of Israel.
