The loudest applause from the Messinian audience was given to Kalamata Greek High School’s “Evi Evan” double performance on the Megaros Choir’s main stage over the weekend, thus marking the end of this year’s dance year.
The overall remarkable result was achieved thanks to the stage presence of 350 dancers, musicians and choirs, who, under the direction of Sofia Spiratu, were able to present folk customs of Dionysian origin through symbolic imitations, movements, dances, songs and dress codes.
For her part, Gina Karelia, president of the Kalamata Greek Girls’ Seminary, referring to the play’s title, “Evoi Eva,” noted that it refers to the Dionysian cry, which means “Rejoice, live beautifully.”
He clarified that the performance in question was dedicated to traditional events of Dionysian origin, while the preparatory work took several months to achieve the best possible result.
The “Kalisto” traditional choir of LEC and members of the children’s department of LEC under the leadership of Katerina Papadopoulou, as well as an eleven-member orchestra, were present at the double performance.
