The Ministry of Culture has included in the general planning of the archaeological site of Delphi the restoration, consolidation and promotion of the Eastern Therma complex, which is part of the monumental complex of the western city of Delphi.
The Central Archaeological Council unanimously gave a positive conclusion to the studies prepared by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Phokidos regarding the preservation and availability of architectural, static, mosaic floors.
The bath complex was especially decorated. All its rooms had mosaic floors with geometric patterns and probably marble inlays. Biomass was burned outside the thermal baths to heat the rooms.
Culture Minister Lina Mendoni said. “The archaeological site of Delphi, registered in the UNESCO World Heritage List, is always in the center of interest of the Ministry of Culture. The project to strengthen the rocks above the gymnasium, with a budget of more than 7,000,000 euros from the restoration fund, is already underway. The East Therma complex is an important late Roman monument of the archaeological site of Delphi, located in the eastern part of the ancient city, outside the walls of the ancient wall, northeast of the Temple of Apollo. The restoration of the eastern Therma complex, in addition to highlighting and strengthening the legibility of the complex, contributes to the expansion of the visible part of the archaeological site of Delphi towards the eastern part..
Through a system of ducts and arched openings, hot air was directed into the hypocausts below the floors, but also into the vertical pipes to exhaust the gases in the walls. From the cold part of the bath, the users again went out to the central area of the dressing room, thus completing the bathing ritual. The complex was supplied with water from a large reservoir built in the 3rd century AD. In the area of the Stoa of Attalos. Interesting functional elements related to water supply, drainage, heating, smoke removal and thermal insulation of hot areas were found in the monument.
The Anatolian Terme complex is included in an independent building material and is built in two separate sections with a difference in height. It grows in an area with a strong slope. The two departments operated independently with different inputs. In the Middle Ages, the buildings of the settlement of “Kastri” were built on the monument, which in 1892 was moved to the west of the ancient site, to the modern settlement of Delphi
