Isaiah Matiamba for a special concert at Afralato

Isaias Matiamba became known to the general public through the television show “Here’s the Chance”, a talent show in which he appeared and eventually emerged as the winner. Since then, he has been writing his own story in Greek song…

At the same time, he also loves acting, appearing in theater, television, and cinema.

This summer he is on a tour called “Almost 20 Years Already” and tomorrow night he will stop at “Afralato” where he will sing for the public of Kalamata.

“Courage” spoke with him and presents to you.

– We start by going back to 2001 and “Here’s the chance”. How did you decide to join it and how important was it to your career?
I was watching the first program with my family in the living room of our house. I realized that it was the right show for me and signed up without a second thought. At that time I was in the 3rd year of high school. After Here’s the Chance ended in the summer of 2002, my collaboration with Eleftheria Arvanitaki began the following winter. So I would say that was pretty important to my start in the songwriting/music industry.

– They often talk about musical talent shows. What do you think and what would you say to the newcomer you are going to go with?
I think that every talent show can be a good starting point for every young person because they first know more or less what they want and where they can move depending on their talents. Unfortunately, history shows that it is a well-designed machine in terms of judges’ careers, show numbers, while there is no real interest in the contestants, their process and psychology.
I emphasize, of course, that the fate of the participants in these broadcasts is also determined by the opposition of parents and the “shopping” of each young person.

– At that time you were given an “opportunity” to be next to great singers. Were these collaborations a big school?
These collaborations are definitely a great school for me. Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Lavrentis Maharitsas, Vassilis Papakonstantinou were the people who shaped my character both professionally and personally. Of course, other people also helped in this: my producers, the musicians I worked with, the impulses I had from childhood, my parents.

– After so many years of music, Isaiah Matiamba feels happy with the path he has taken.
I would say that I am very happy with the path I have taken in music and theater. In 22 years, I have achieved a lot, and my thirst for music and theater has no end. I want to keep doing what I like, where my instincts take me, for as long as it takes me and as long as I can take it.

– In addition to music, we also saw you on television, both as an actor and as a participant in a talent show, this time on the subject of dance. How did you decide to join them?
The theater was, is and will be a part of me. I will learn a lot from this both as a person and as an actor. I go where my soul feels at home, that’s why I want to try and be tested in different situations.
